2017 Bharathanatyam Competition
The annual Bharathanatyam competition at the Cleveland Thyagaraja Festival is held on the second weekend of the Festival.
Dancers from across the globe convene in Cleveland for this prestigious competition, hoping to win the top prize in their category.
The competition will be held over 2 days, April 22–23. All applicants will perform in a preliminary round on Saturday, April 22. They will perform a preselected item with a strict time limit of 5 minutes before a panel of judges.
Due to the overwhelming number of younger participants, this year we will be dividing the competition into four age categories.
Five (5) finalists from each category will be selected by the judges to perform on Sunday, April 23 during the grand finale. Each finalist will be given 8 minutes to perform a preselected item. Judges will select the winners from each category and the Grand Prize winner at the completion of the program.
The winner in the 9–11 category will receive a 30 minute performance slot at the 2018 Cleveland festival.
The winner in the 12–14 category will receive a 1-hour performance slot at the 2018 Cleveland festival.
The winners of the 15–19 and 20–25 categories will receive a performance opportunity in Chennai during the 2017 music and dance season.
All winners, past and present, will be invited to take part in future Aradhana Committee dance productions.
In addition, a single GRAND PRIZE winner will be selected from across all categories. This Grand Prize winner will receive:
