Alapana Competition

Please read these rules carefully before registering for the competition.

Eligibility

  • The competition is an individual event. Groups will not be allowed to enter.
  • There will be two age groups — Junior for ages 10 to 14, and Senior for ages 15 to 21. (Age should be calculated as of March 1)
  • In addition to these age groups, there will be different categories for vocal and various melody instruments (violin, flute, veena, etc.)

Application/Competition

  • The fee for this category is US $85 per entry
  • All applicants in the Senior category must submit five (5) ragas on the application form, and juniors must submit three (3) ragas.
  • The judges will choose which of the ragas must be performed on stage. If the contestant is unable to perform the raga that the judges have selected, he/she may be disqualified.
  • A strict time limit of five (5) minutes will be imposed. A buzzer will signal the conclusion of the allotted time. The judges may also request the contestant to stop before the allotted time.
  • The decision of the judges is final and binding.
  • The application for registration and associated entry fee must be received by the deadline, March 8, 2026.

Registration for the competition is now closed. You can still view your entry by logging into the registration page, but you cannot add or change any entries.
