Sustaining Sampradaya 2012

The Aradhana Committee continues its education series Sustaining Sampradaya, for its sixth year. Although the deadline for applying has passed, you can still view the announcement for applications.

This year, we once again feature two themed programs:

Homage to Madurai Mani Iyer

The year 2012 is the centenary year of Madurai Sri Mani Iyer, a true star in his time. The Aradhana Committee, in consultation with senior vidwans and vidushis, has put together a very special concert invoking memories of his immortal music.

The music lessons for this program are available for download.

The Glory of Tamil Composers

Musical traditions in Tamil-speaking areas have an unbroken tradition dating back to the 2nd century BCE. Some of the more scholarly works come from Oothukadu Venkata Kavi, the Tamil Moovar, and countless contemporary composers. The Aradhana Committee would like to honor these composers through this program. The second half of this program memorializes Smt. T. Brinda, in her centenary year, through Tamil padams, for which she set a new standard.

The music lessons for this program are available for download.

Dr S.A.K. Durga led a discussion on practice and performance. The audio of the discussion can be downloaded here.

Lessons are also available for Pt. Ravi Shankar's composition Hey Nath in Yaman as taught by Dr M. Narmadha.
