Sustaining Sampradaya 2008

Following the success of last year's Sustaining Sampradaya program and the performance by the participants in the inaugural concert at the Cleveland Thyagaraja Festival, this year the Aradhana Committee has decided to expand the program.

Although the deadline for applying has passed, you can still view the announcement for applications.

This year, we feature two themed programs:

Prahlada Bhakti Vijayam

This is a dance-drama composed by Sri Thyagaraja, consisting of krithis, gadyams (prose), and padyams (poetry). Thyagaraja concentrates his work on the love and devotion of Prahlada towards Vishnu (through Rama), and does not have any place at all for Hiranyakashipu.

Kamalamba Navavaranam

These majestic compositions of Muthuswamy Dikshitar were composed in praise of the Ambal in Thiruvarur. The collection of nine krithis traditionally includes two more compositions — a dhyana krithi at the beginning, and a mangala krithi at the end. For this program, we will be including two additional krithis as well, at the behest of Sri R.K. Shrikantan.
