Padams/Javalis Competition

Please read these rules carefully before registering for the competition.

Eligibility

  • The competition is an individual event. Groups will not be allowed to enter.
  • You must be in the age range of 10–21 (as of March 1) to compete.
  • This category is open to vocal and melody instruments. Competitors will not be separated into vocal and instrumental categories, and only one set of prizes will be given out.

Application/Competition

  • All applicants must submit three (3) padams or javalis in the application form. When listing your choices, please state the raga, tala, and composer of the varnam in addition to the first few words of the sahitya.
  • The judges will choose which of the padams or javalis must be performed on stage. They may also ask you to sing just a part of the padam or javali. If you are unable to perform what the judges have selected, you may be disqualified.
  • A strict time limit of five (5) minutes will be imposed. A buzzer will signal the conclusion of the allotted time. The judges may also request the contestant to stop before the allotted time.
  • The decision of the judges is final and binding.
  • The application for registration and associated entry fee must be received by the deadline, March 24, 2024.
