Krithi Competitions

Please read these rules carefully before registering for the competition.

  • The competition is an individual event. Groups will not be allowed to enter.
  • There will be three age groups - sub-junior for ages 6 to 9, junior for ages 10 to 14, and senior for ages 15 to 21. (Age should be calculated as of March 31)
  • In addition to these age groups, there will be different categories for vocal, violin, veena, etc.
  • People who will be performing a concert in this Aradhana, or who have performed a concert in a previous Cleveland Aradhana are not eligible to participate in the competition (group concerts organized by the Aradhana Committee do not count towards this restriction).
  • If an applicant is competing in more than one category, a separate application form must be submitted for each category. Incomplete forms will not be accepted.
  • All applicants in the Senior category must submit 5 (FIVE) krithi-s on the application form, Juniors must submit 3 (THREE), and Sub-Juniors 1 (ONE). The judges will choose which of the krithi-s must be performed on stage.
  • The competition is NOT restricted to the compositions of St. Thyagaraja. While listing the krithis of your preference, please state the Raga, Tala and composer of the songs in addition to the first few words of the sahitya.
  • Contestants will be asked to perform ONE krithi with NO raga alapana, niraval or kalpana swaram. A strict time limit of 5 (FIVE) minutes will be imposed. A buzzer will signal the conclusion of the allotted time. The judges may also request the contestant to stop before the allotted time.
  • If the contestant is unable to perform the song that the judge has selected, he/she may be disqualified.
  • The decision of the judges is final and binding.
  • Failure to comply with these rules will result in immediate disqualification. Please make sure that your entry conforms to the rules and also keep strictly within the time limits. The number of participants is very large and we would like to give all the children a chance to showcase their talent.
  • All applications for registration must be received by March 7 . Applications received after that date will not be accepted under any circumstances.

By filling out an application, you agree to abide by the rules of the competition and decisions of the judges.

At the end of the application, you will receive a key number. Write down this key number. It is your proof of registration. Any questions regarding your application must include this key number. Without your key number, we will not be able to locate your record, and you will not be able to perform at the competition.
