Music Competitions

As is done every year at the Aradhana, there will be a music competition held the first Friday of the festival. This year, the competition falls on April 10, 2009.

This year, we have introduced three new categories for the competition: a viruttham singing category, an accompaniment category for violin and percussion artists, and Burnished Gold, our new category for entrants 50 and older.

For details, please choose the appropriate category in the music competition.

The entry fee for the music competition is $50. If you are participating in multiple categories, you will have to pay the fee separately for each entry. The application deadline is March 27, 2009.

Additionally, the festival is looking to spot talents of extraordinary caliber and present them to both the north American audience as well as to the Chennai audience during the next music season. We are also looking to show-case music schools that are imparting very high quality instructions in carnatic music. Please see the details in their respective category.

Harikatha Competition

The Kathakalakshepam category was instituted in 2007 and is now a regular feature among our competitions. It is held the same day as the music competition (April 10, 2009), and has the same entry fee and application deadline.

For details, please see our Harikatha Competition page.

Bharatanatyam Competition
