A Krithi Competition for the Experienced

Please read these rules carefully before registering for the competition.

Eligibility

  • The competition is an individual event. Groups will not be allowed to enter.
  • This category is for people aged 50 and above (age should be calculated as of March 1).
  • There will be two categories: vocal, and melody instruments (no percussion).

Application/Competition

  • All applicants must submit five (5) krithis on the application form.
  • The competition is NOT restricted to the compositions of St. Thyagaraja. While listing the krithis of your preference, please state the raga, tala and composer of the songs in addition to the first few words of the sahitya.
  • The judges will choose which of the krithis must be performed on stage. If the contestant is unable to perform the song that the judges have selected, he/she may be disqualified.
  • The contestant will be asked to perform ONE krithi, with NO raga alapana, niraval or kalpana swaram. A strict time limit of five (5) minutes will be imposed. A buzzer will signal the conclusion of the allotted time. The judges may also request the contestant to stop before the allotted time.
  • The decision of the judges is final and binding.
  • The application for registration and associated entry fee must be received by the deadline, March 15, 2010.
